Our Story
We started out struggling with the exact same problem that many Singaporeans faced even till this day. Mortgages were a complex and confusing concept to grasp and applying for one wasn't any easier. Not only did we have to spend countless hours scouring multiple banking websites to research on their various home loan package offerings, we also had to talk to multiple people - agents, brokers and bank representatives - in order to make a feeble attempt to figure everything out. Being commision-driven, these people would sometimes be pushy and biased towards the few products they were representing. Eventually, when we did settle on a particular package, we were still not 100% sure whether it was truly the best deal in town for us.
That's when we decided to build a simple and easy-to-use online loan comparison platform that was free for anyone to use. It would be an online platform that could easily determine a user's unique profile, automatically scan all mortgage packages available in the market and systematically return relevant results in an easy-to-compare table format. It would be 100% transparent and 100% unbiased. There would also be no confusing jargon, no pushy sales pitches and no fancy marketing spiels. The results returned would speak for themselves. All we had to do was pick which package gave the best rates and lowest interest amounts and the battle would be as good as won.
And that's exactly what we did.
SmartLoans.sg was launched in April 2009 to do just that. Our website enabled people to get results lighting fast, saving them significant amount of time and money that they would have otherwise spent via the traditional route. The website quickly gained popularity and has since been featured in local magazines, newspapers, online blogs and even the radio. In 2010, we extended its product comparison line to include Renovation Loans, Education Loans and Business Loans. All in all, it has been a pretty fulfilling ride.
